Magnus Ek and his wife Agneta Green run Oaxen Krog and Slip at Djurgården. The couple started and ran a previous incarnation of their restuarant on the remote island of Oaxen in 1994-2011. Here, Ek developed his independent and pioneering cooking philosophy, using wild ingredients and local produce. Oaxen Skärgårdskrog was listed for five years on the World’s 50 Best Restaurant list, and also appointed by the leading Swedish restaurant guide White Guide as the country's best restaurant for many years.

After 17 years in Oaxen, Ek and Green reopened in a former shipyard on the island of Djurgården, close to nature yet almost in the middle of town. Oaxen Krog, a gastronomic dining room, gained its second Michelin star in 2015. Oaxen Slip, a more casual Swedish bistro, gained a Bib Gourmand in the 2013 Michelin Guide.

Ek explores both wild herbs on the island of Djurgården, luscious seafood from the Baltic sea, and unique ingredients from across the Nordic region. His ingredients are selected not only on the basis of quality and taste, but also according to their adherence to sustainable agriculture and humane animal husbandry practices. Likewise, Oaxen Krog and Slip's wines are selected from small, old-world vineyards that share their philosophy.

While Ek prepares these ingredients in a modern way, old and traditional techniques remain the foundation of his approach.
