Ramón Freixa grew up in the town of Igualada, Barcelona where his family was running a grocery store. He studied Hospitality Management at the Higher School for Tourism and Hospitality of Sant Pol de Mar (Barcelona), and in Belgium. He went back home to work at his family’s restaurant where he finally learned his ways that would mark his cuisine forever. It is also in this restaurant, El Racó d’en Freixa, where he received his first Michelin star in 1998.
In 2001 and 2007, Ramón was recognized as the Best Chef and Best Spanish Restaurant by the guide Gourmetour, while in 2002, he received the Best Cheese Trolley and 2003, Best Dessert Showcase. He headed the Avalon Restaurant at the Grand Central Hotel in Barcelona and carried on his father’s legacy until 2009. After that, he underwent a major change and focused on traditional Catalan cuisine, renaming the restaurant as Freixa Tradició.
Ramón came to Madrid in 2009 and opened a restaurant called Ramón Freixa Madrid, which eventually earned its first Michelin star shortly after, followed by the second in 2010.
Two years later, Ramón received the Grand Chef Relais & Châteaux award for his Madrid restaurant. He then later opened another one called Erre in Cartagena de Indias in Columbia.
